2024 Zero DS - Takes the 11kW Dual Sport category into uncharted terrain
The 2024 Zero DS delivers an outstanding range of capabilities from tracks and trails to potholed tarmac. Based on the range-topping 2023 DSR/X, the 2024 DS is broadly the same bike, but with the smaller Z-Force 75-7 motor. Never before has an 11kW motorcycle of such versatility and performance been available to all licence classes, even though the 2024 DS will appeal to many full licence holders.
The DS is not merely an S with as higher ride height, it's different from the ground up with a 19" front wheel, Pirelli Scorpion tyres, 47mm forks with greater travel, an under-seat mounted 600 Amp controller resulting in 246mm of ground clearance, a special version of Bosch MSC with an off-road riding mode, linked ABS brakes (eCBS) which allow the rear ABS to be disengaged, a much more upright riding position and excellent weather protection from the large fairing and height-adjustable screen.
Despite the DS' 239 kg it accelerates very briskly courtesy of the motor's 132 Nm of torque, which provides smooth and seamless performance right across its speed range. The power pack offers a capacity of 14.4kW out of the crate, but this can be upgraded by up to 20% to match the DSR/X' 17.3 kWh. Lighting is also borrowed from the DSR/X, with a powerful LED headlight and optional LED fog lights.
The excellent weather protection of the DS is perfect for comfortable, all-year-round riding and the optional touring screen will especially suit taller riders. On that point, low seat and tall seat options are available if the standard seat doesn't suffice.
Like the DSR/X, the DS has many options including, but not limited to, frame bars, rear and side racks, aluminum luggage, a centre stand, an aluminium skid plate, black passenger mounts and wire wheels.
